CONTESTS!
I've been teaching creative writing and English for over 25 years, and there's one thing I know about creative kids: they love to enter contests!
Here's an opportunity for students in GRADES K-3 to enter writing or art contests related to themes in ALLEY LOO: A SPOOKY SWAMP TALE.
Teachers, the contest information is the same for grades K-1st and 2nd-3rd, but each group will be judged separately.
There will be FOUR contest periods during the school year -
1. September-October
2. November-December
3. January-February
4. March-April
All entries postmarked within any of these time frames will be eligible for that particular contest.
Each student entry needs to have an entry form attached, but teachers can send in class sets of entries in one envelope. Students should not send in more than one entry per contest, but they can send in one entry to subsequent contests if they wish. Please encourage students not to recycle entries by merely sending in the same entry for each contest.
Students will love the great illustrations and suspenseful message of ALLEY LOO. You can purchase a copy of ALLEY LOO: A SPOOKY SWAMP TALE for your classroom. It's available in three formats:
Consider entering your students in the ALLEY LOO CONTESTS. It's an inexpensive way to get children to write and think creatively!
There are also related activity sheets for students in grades K-1 as well as grades 2-3.
Here is an entry form that you can reproduce for all your students.
And you can post this flier to remind students of contest deadlines.
For each contest period, there will be one winner in each category for each age group. Winners will be announced on this website and notified through the mail with a certificate and prize.

"Now remember, Junior. Bring home that Alley Loo Contest entry form."
