Alley Loo Goes to Africa

I've been a teacher at Woodward Academy for many years.  Founded in 1900 as Georgia Military Academy, Woodward is the oldest private school in Atlanta, Georgia.  Today it is the largest independent school in the continental United States.

Woodward has always been an advocate of community service.  During the course of each school year, students are involved in many community service projects including one of our largest projects, Terranova School in Mazabuka, Zambia.

Hooray for Terranova School! Terranova School is a dream come true for coffee farmers Colin and Alison Street.  To help improve the lives of their employees and their children, the Streets built a school on their Zambian coffee plantation that was free to anyone who wished to attend.  Each year since 2001, they have added grades, teachers, and buildings until now, a school that was originally designed to teach 200 children, serves 380!

Woodward Academy has adopted Terranova School as a sister school, and in the past several years, has provided this Zambian school with books, clothing, teaching materials, computers, manpower for building projects, and even vision tests. This summer I was able to donate copies of ALLEY LOO to the Terranova library!
